Responsibilities

As a Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction equipment on-site at various job locations. This is a field-based role that requires strong mechanical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, loaders, rollers, skid steers, and trucks.

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative repairs on equipment in the field.

  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel engine systems.

  • Accurately document all work performed, parts used, and labor time.

  • Communicate effectively with site supervisors and equipment managers regarding status and repairs.

  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with safety standards and company procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized field service truck and parts inventory.

  • Respond to emergency breakdowns as needed, including after-hours service calls.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • 3+ years field experience repairing heavy construction equipment required. 
  • Must have experience working on Paving Equipment. 
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required 
  • Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must be knowledgeable with all components of heavy construction machinery including but not limited to diesel engines, power transmissions, hydrostatic drives, open and closed-circuit hydraulics as well as compensating systems.
  • Possess diagnostic capabilities with hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems on modern construction equipment.
  • Ability to make repair decisions quickly and rationally. 
  • Expected to keep all sensitive material confidential. 
  • Able to arrange schedules, recommend machinery to be down for repair as needed, and able to make parts orders. 
  • Ability to give and receive written or oral instructions. 
  • Must have ability to work independently and safely. 
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change. 
  • Caterpillar Et/SIS, Volvo Prosis/tech tool, Cummins InSite knowledge/Experience. 
  • Basic skills in OXY/Acetylene torch. 
  • Basic Stick Welding 7018,6010
